Hi guys,
long time no update. I'm sorry I've been really busy with school and lots of playing around on my drumset. I can honestly say that during these, let's say 4 weeks since I first posted on this blog, I haven't really advanced at all.
I started to ask myself why, when every day after school I went to my rehearsing space and play for 2-3 hours or have 2 band rehearsals and sit behind the kit for as long as 5 hours.
The answer is simple - just sitting behind the kit = 0 progress. When playing you're making the things you know solid, but you're not learning new things effectively.
Jamming around on the kit is sure fun and sometimes it's good to forget practising and just play around. In fact when you are having the fun of your life, just have fun . But when you're going to practise, you should practise, in order to establish a form of discipline.
So how to practise effectively ?
I've found these points online, I will post the full link at the end of this blog.
Honestly - which do you actually do each session ? ;)
+spend most time on new challenges
+concentrate on point of exercise
+visualize before playing; get away from the ‘body leading the mind’ angle
+play as if in performance
+repeat exercises slowly to build muscle memory
+keep a positive mental attitude
+record yourself regularly to gauge improvement and spot weaknesses
+plan your work and work your plan
I think MOST of us know these things already, but we just sometimes try to block it out.
I know I sure am', and by writing this blog I hope to change this and really get my butt to practise properly.
So start by asking yourself - what am I going to practise today ? :)
Good luck and keep practising, but above all --- HAVE FUN !!!
ps.- this is a WONDERFUL link about effective practise, definetely check it out. http://www.jazzwise.com/catalog/media/pracrout/practiceroutine.pdf

Hello !
So here I'm, starting a blog about my favorite thing in the world - drumming !
I've had this idea for a long time and the idea is really simple. It's more of a motivation to write about what I've found to help me, videos, techniques, ideas, things that I've found on the internet or what I myself have come up with. It will also be a form of my practise diary.
So let me introduce myself - I'm Adam, I'm 20 years old and I live in Slovakia, Bratislava.
I began drumming exactly on my 16th birthday when i got my first e-kit, a Yamaha DTXPress 2.
Before that I had no idea about music at all. My interest in drums (( being motivated for some reason by the movie Drumline and corps drummers) however lead me to und
erstand music and it's concepts a little further, bringing me to search for interesting things to drum to . Within a couple of months I was hooked on Iron Maiden and Nicko McBrain is still today my greatest influence. Iron Maiden lead me to different bands and heavy metal and rock music in general are my greatest passions nowdays that go hand-in-hand with my love for drumming.
You can check out my last.fm profile
http://www.last.fm/user/HMetal_days. I can find inspiration and motivation in any band really, but generally speaking Manowar, Gamma Ray, In Flames, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Mountain, The Who are amongst my greatest influences. My favorite drummers are Nicko McBrain, Buddy Rich, Jojo Mayer, Rhino, Ian Paice, Keith Moon ....
I much more prefer drummers who play with more feel that over-techniqued junkies such as Thomas Lang. They are excellent drummers, I just don't dig them so much.
Since I've started drumming at 16, I've almost always been in a band. Nowdays I have 2 projects. None of them have names yet really, but just for fun, we call the the first one The Bloody Vagina ((don't ask why...)). It's mostly alternative rock influenced by bands such as Audioslave and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Not exactly my cup of tea as I'm more of the old school influenced and was never a real fan of the modern rock bands, but I've come to enjoy playing it with my friends and it's another aspect of drumming experience for me.
My second project is with a very talented young guitarist who is only 14 but who is really a talent for music in general and working with him is really professional.
Hopefully demos for both bands will be in making soon.
Besides music, I've recently started law school .
So this is pretty much everything about me, and visit back soon for updates ! :)
Love every note and every hit.
Adam
